You can thank Broadway—and Wicked costume designer Susan Hilferty—for making witches trendy this year: her coal-inspired version of the Wicked Witch of the West's gown draws more from modern couture than those striped leggings from the movie ever did. After a tour of the Wicked dressing room, the Threadbanger team shows you how copy that look by turning your old black or blue clothes into a ruffled skirt, bell-sleeved top, and hat with a sewing machine and a few simple materials. Don't have any dark clothes lying around? Check your local thrift store for jersey skirts, a collared button-down, and fabrics with different textures—velvet, suede, cotton—for maximum impact.
