New Browser Plug-In Shows You Only Green Ads
Advertisements make the internet go 'round--wedged in on every page in some way or another, they're the one thing you can't escape when you're online. Google has ads. Youtube has ads. Your email likely has ads. Planet Green has big ol' ads. It's a fact of life--the number one way that most Americans get their information is riddled with advertisements.
All these ads are totally out of your control--endorsements for lame t-shirts, new movies, jewelry, credit checks (those are the worst), and every kind of sweepstakes or contest under the sun.
But it doesn't have to be that way. There's a cool new plug-in you can download that wipes out all of those ethically dubious (or just standard) ads out of sight, and replaces them with ads by organizations and companies that 'do good.' Hence the name of the plug-in: the DoGooder.
From the DoGood website:
The DoGooder browswer plug-in hides the generic advertising you see on the internet, and shows you thoughtful green-related initiatives, philanthropic calls for action, and health and wellness ideas instead. We then donate 50% of our profits back to charity, green initiatives, and non-profit organizations.
So basically, instead of supporting whatever companies place ads on the websites you come across when browsing, you're supporting good, ethical groups who can use the funding--just by browsing as usual.
As you browse, you'll see 'Goodie Points' accumulate at the bottom of your browser--that's the number of 'good' ads you've seen in your browsing session. The bigger the number, the more money you're helping donate to charities.
It's a great idea, and since it's free and that DoGood promises the plug-in won't slow browser performance at all, it's well worth taking for a spin. Learn more about and download the plug-in at the DoGooder HQ.
