Have you ever tried to picture a crowded metropolis like New York without cars? The folks at Transportation Alternatives (TA) have not only imagined it, they've also been working toward it for years?and it begins with Central Park. While the Big Apple can often be bike friendly, there are still plenty of good reasons why TA wants to free Central Park from automobile traffic. "A society so reliant on cars is already being revealed as destructive to the planet," says TA board member Ken Coughlin, "and it will soon become completely unsustainable."
If things go TA's way with Central Park, next in line is Brooklyn's Prospect Park.
