Don't toss it - turn it into a donation for Haitians!

Donating your old phone for charity accomplishes several important things, including helping out a person who wouldn't otherwise have access to a needed technology, keeping toxic e-waste out of landfills, and even keeping it out of the recycling system since using what devices we have is less energy intensive than recycling them into new devices.

But now, donating your old mobile phone can mean something even bigger - it can help Haitians devastated by the recent earthquake

ReCellular, one of the largest and most trusted cell phone donation and refurbishing companies has launched Phones for Haiti, a project designed to funnel profits earned from the collecting and reselling of used phones straight to victims of the earthquake

From Phones For Haiti: "There are an estimated 130 million phones retired in the United States every year. If even a small percentage of them are donated to Phones for Haiti, it would contribute millions of dollars towards relief from the devastating earthquake. ReCellular will give 100% of the phone value as a contribution to the American Red Cross. In addition, qualifying phones will be refurbished and supplied to aid groups working in Haiti. All phones are accepted, though newer phones will provide the most value to the charity -- in some cases $100 or more."

If there's ever been a reason to pull that old phone out of the drawer where it's been hanging out and send it in to a good cause, this is it.

The shipping process is free and easy - you just print out a pre-paid label, put it on an envelope or box with the device inside, and drop it in the mail.
