The recycling industry is struggling. Newspapers are in trouble, too. "How do I support the tangible, local delivery of essential daily news without adding to the piles of recyclables piling up in warehouses across the country?" you ask? Upcycle that newspaper, I say. Make it into something that makes everyone feel good: fashion.
There are a plethora of ways to turn newspaper info fashionable items for your wardrobe, or gifts for friends. And we're not just talking wrapping paper that's just going to be torn off and thrown out elsewhere.
Take a page out of the Moschino book of style and decoupage some ankle boots with last week's news. Or decoupage bangles made from tin cans and pvc pipes with newspaper—small print with a headline splashed across is a good look. Do the same with earrings and belts—anything with a flat surface that doesn't get washed will work. Use a thin coat of non-toxic varnish to set the newspaper and add a bit of shine.
Other cool things to do with old newspapers, glue, and a bit o' creativity:
- A newspaper bench
- Entire newspaper outfits!
Support newspapers, read the news...then get creative!
