Sure, it's great to have green gear, but it's not that great unless you have it right when you need it. Turn your wheels into an eco-treasure trove by stocking the glove compartment of your car with a couple of green essentials that'll banish the classic "I got this awesome green thing but never use it 'cause I always leave it at home" syndrome.
Reusable Shopping Bag
You never know when you'll need to stop off on the way home for some last-minute groceries, so keep a reusable shopping bag on hand to cut down on your use of disposables during emergency I-need-some-organic-milk-right-now market runs. A small folding reusable bag will fit right into your glove compartment and still leave plenty of room for all the normal detritus that needs to be in there, like unpaid parking tickets, takeout menus, and mysterious and random crumpled maps from ancient roadtrips.
Off-Grid Flashlight
The next time you need a flashlight to signal distress in morse code when you're stranded by the side of the road, to shed some light on something, or just to put on a crazy psychedelic light show to keep yourself amused while you've got a minute to kill in a parking lot, grab a green beam with a light that doesn't totally rely on the power grid for its juice. Try a solar-powered flashlight, or a hand-crank model.
Reusable Water Bottle
Every single time you choose not to purchase a disposable water bottle, your carbon footprint gets a little bit smaller, so throw a SiggT or other BPA-free water bottle in your glove compartment to cut the temptation to hit a gas station convenience mart for a use-it-and-throw-it-out swig. The next time you're caught in traffic for so long that you feel like a beleaguered Oregon Trail pioneer about to expire of thirst, you'll be glad you have an eco-smart gulp at your fingertips.
