For those of us who're exhausted with all the travails that come along with maintaining, storing, even driving our very own machines that might not be so mean or green, there's an option for making what may be the greenest move of our lives. Yes, it may be time to donate that old junker lurking in the garage.
The reasons to donate are many: besides ranking among the top contributors to greenhouse gas emissions and being the bread and butter of decidedly un-eco friendly companies like Exxon, cars are now invariably expensive to drive (four dollars a gallon, anyone?). Seems like there's never been a better time to jump ship?or jump SUV. But you may only want to donate if you live in an area with ample public transit (or can bike to work or arrange a carpool)?you don't want to strand yourself in the suburbs sans transportation.
There are myriad ways to get that old jalopy off your hands, and many, many charities that would love to take it. Check out this list of charities to find one you'd like to support. And donating your car is so much simpler now than it's ever been in the past?just log online to a donation site and make a few clicks. No need to hassle with daunting DMV paperwork anymore. So watch the Indy 500 and live vicariously (and greenly) through the spectacle of speed. Happy Donating!
