If a man in your life wears down a dress shirt, just turn it into a cardigan for yourself!
I pride myself in being able to think of ways to reuse my clothes and to help other ladies do the same. But resourcefully green ladies are often times faced with a bit of a predicament when living with a man who is getting ready to kick his old clothes to the curb. But making cute lady clothes from a man's second-hand clothes definitely isn't impossible. If a man in your life has an old dress shirt he's getting rid of, like my roommate recently did, turn it into an adorable cardigan with just a pair of scissors.
If you want to turn a man's dress shirt into a women's cardigan, follow these instructions:
1. Decide on the dress shirt of his you will use and cut off the sleeves.
2. Once you've cut off the sleeves, cut inches off of the bottom of the shirt, all the way around.
I cut nearly a foot off of this shirt at the bottom.
3. Put the shortened version of his shirt on over another shirt and tie in the center.
Not only is this a cute way to reuse a man's dress shirt, but it's also fashionable. Calvin Klein recently added in some business-type shirts with tied bottoms like this in his women's collection.
Learning to make use of men's clothing so that the pieces can be repurposed to suit your own wardrobe is a great way to go green. Not only does it prevent that man in your life from increasing our waste problem by throwing out a shirt he no longer uses, but it helps you to look chic without expending a single resource (other than a couple minutes of your time).
