I like: necklaces
I dislike: paying way too much for them when I can make them myself.
I challenged myself yesterday to make a necklace that I love without buying anything at all. I searched around my home to get some ideas. I looked for items that I wasn't using any longer. I looked for items that meant something to me so that I could be sure I'd really love the necklace. Here's what I found:
I found a leather shoelace that had been stuck in a drawer for some time. I deemed it incredibly worthy of being the core of the necklace.
I, like many others, have a collection of keepsakes in my house. They're all quaintly seated on a windowsill in my bedroom and they bring back warm memories when I see them. I spotted a seashell my roommate had brought back to me from vacation once...it was one with a perfect hole at the top; especially convenient for stringing.
Since I like jewelry so much, I also have a trunk filled with jewelry I don't use all too often. I found an old chain and metal feather from a broken necklace in this trunk and decided that I could definitely make use of these items. On another broken necklace, I spotted two brown beads.
I envisioned these pieces together and made the necklace in the picture. It's simple, but I love it. My challenge worked out beautifully and I challenge you to do the same thing! Look around your house and see if you can't help put some of your less-used items together to make a brand new necklace. I bet you can!
