Turn your junk into jewelry: Make this necklace in minutes.
When your clothes start to wear down, there's only so much you can do to save them so that you can keep wearing them the way you always have. Sometimes you have to just salvage what you can from your clothing instead. Making the necklace featured above, or one like it, is easy to do by collecting some items that are commonly disposed of when clothes and accessories go bad.
I used some homeless buttons, the buckle from a belt gone bad, a leather band from a broken necklace, and some thread for this project.
If you have some buttons, a belt buckle and a band of some kind, here's how you make this necklace:
1. Remove the belt buckle from the belt with some scissors
2. String some buttons together with the thread
3. Wrap the thread, with buttons, around the bottom of the buckle
4. String the leather through the top of the buckle. Tie in the back around your neck and enjoy! Even if you can't salvage each part of the clothing you're through with, salvaging what you can is important. Making a necklace like this is a great way to make new use of items like these and it's the perfect way to talk about your green lifestyle when people, inevitably, ask you where you got your necklace.
