Painting is fun. I am incredibly below mediocre in painting skill and I still enjoy it. Ideally, painting should be done responsibly. Painting responsibly includes washing your brushes thoroughly so that they don't become hard and unusable. But we all make mistakes. I made some mistakes recently while painting and didn't wash two of my brushes well enough. This irresponsibility on my end left the brushes with hard, unusable ends. Discovering this was a drag, but I negated my disappointment with my invention of the paintbrush hair chopsticks.

I've always liked hair chopsticks and now you can make them yourself with some old paintbrushes...provided you've made some of the same painting mistakes I've made.

It's easy to make hair chopsticks from old paintbrushes:

Choose Paintbrushes to Reuse

Locate your seemingly useless paintbrushes. Pull them out from the rumble in which they lay and wash them off. Gently let them know you've found a new use for them. But it will require some force.

Remove Ends of Brushes

Remove the brush ends of the brushes. The ones I had were relatively easy to remove—just a tug and they were off. If yours don't come off so easily, saw the ends off or just break them at the end if you've got the muscle power.

Decorate and Enjoy

Decorate what's left however you wish. I used some fabric from a neglected necktie to adhere to the ends.

Enjoy! These make for a perfect spring/summer hair accessory. Making these is a green way to use brushes that would have otherwise been trash and be fashionable at the same time.
