With swimsuit season slowly coming around this year, you may find that you no longer have use for your old swimsuit. While preparing for a trip to Mexico recently, that's exactly what I discovered while going through my belongings in an effort to pack. I had this old bikini top that no longer fit. Of course I had to find a use for it.

A couple of days prior to this packing extravaganza, I had stumbled into an Urban Outfitters store, as I sometimes do. I noticed there were stringy little headbands with flower-like formations on them everywhere. And when I later checked their website, models wearing this kind of headband were on every page.

I liked the headband and I wanted one, but I couldn't justify using up new resources to buy a brand new headband like this if I could just make one myself from that old swimsuit top. So I went ahead and made the headband myself. Swimsuit material is perfect for a project like this because of how stretchy it is.

Choose a Swimsuit

Locate your swimsuit. Cut off a strap. This will be the base of your headband.

Tie Strap

Tie your strap together at the end.

Cut Fabric

Cut a chunk of stretchy fabric off of your swimsuit.

Tie Strands Cut this chunk of fabric into smaller strands and tie those strands all the way around the base of your headband. Finish Edges and Enjoy Once you have enough pieces tied around your headband, cut off the long edges. This will leave your ties with a flower-like feel. Enjoy! This project is a fun way to reuse and avoid buying new simultaneously.
