When we think about what kind of lighting we use, often our first thought is getting the most light for our buck. We care about conserving energy, finding long-lasting bulbs, and, most of all, saving money. But there's another kind of pollution we should consider when purchasing light bulbs and fixtures: light pollution.

If you plan to buy an LED light bulb, like the one Bode had such an easy time pedaling to power at Coachella on Alter Eco, you're definitely making are environmentally-friendly decision. If you install it outdoors, however, make sure your lamp or fixture is properly shaded, or the LED, like any other light, will actually contribute to light pollution, a serious and often forgotten form of pollution that not only encompasses energy waste, but harms nocturnal wildlife and impedes our view of the skies.

Indoor and outdoor lighting options that are energy, wallet, and night sky friendly can be found at Starry Night Lights and through the International Dark-Sky Association.
