Nothing says rustic summer decor like driftwood; now that it's fall, keep that feel alive with some slick driftwood decor ideas. Whether you stumble upon small, water-worn sticks or a large piece of wood smoothed by nature, driftwood that washes ashore can be used in a variety of beautiful ways in your home.

Candle Holder Glue together pieces of thin driftwood sticks to create a log cabin-style structure at least four inches by four inches -- you want to keep any flames well away from the sides. Glue a piece of thin wood or masonite to the bottom for a base, and use a glass votive holder in the center to ensure candle safety.

Clock Driftwood makes for lovely framing for a one-of-a-kind, rustic clock. Use a sturdy surface for the clock face -- anything from masonite to a piece of vintage tin or copper ceiling. Frame the edges of the clock face with driftwood by arranging pieces of various sizes until you're pleased with the composition. Glue everything in place, add the clock movements, and you're done!

Lamp A single large piece of driftwood, or several slim, twisty pieces that can be intertwined can make for a beautiful lamp. Trim the bottom edge of the driftwood piece(s) for an even surface, and if necessary, drill a hole through the centre to thread the cord through. Tread the cord through, mount the socket and harp, and place a shade on the lamp.

Coffee Table Curiosity A carefully curated room with a variety of curiosities is a wonderful thing, and if you love spending time near or on the water, a piece of twisting driftwood makes for a beautiful addition to any room.

End Table If you've lucked out and found a treasure trove of large pieces of driftwood, you can use a few or several pieces to craft a beautiful end table. Look for pieces of driftwood that have a relatively thick (at least four inches) core through the length of the piece. Driftwood with holes worn through the center won't provide as much support, but they do add interest, so you may want to add one or two pieces once you have the support taken care of. Top the table with a piece of round glass fastened with a low-VOC clear adhesive -- the glass will allow for an unobstructed view of the driftwood.

There are plenty of other ways to use driftwood in your home, from making it your summertime centerpiece at dinner parties to crafting unique picture frames. With a little creative thought, you can bring a little piece of the outdoors into your home.
