It's a beautiful thing when a festival that pulls in thousands upon thousands of attendees can look past just the profit margin of the show and think to invest back into their community by taking their impact on the environment seriously. Some festivals past have been utter disasters (man, I'm glad I wasn't at Woodstock '99), so it's always a breath of fresh air to see a festival working to avoid ridiculous anti-eco behavior. I'm on a mission to make sure you know about each festival and tour coming your way that's going green. Bonnaroo is one of them.

Bonnaroo is a huge music and entertainment festival held in Manchester, Tennessee each summer. This year the festival will run June 11-14 and feature acts like Bruce Springsteen, Nine Inch Nails, Phish, Beastie Boys, Mars Volta, and many more. Thankfully for all of us, Bonnaroo is doing their part to go green.

How Bonnaroo is going green:

1. When you buy your ticket, you have the option of contributing extra money toward the development and implementation of sustainable improvements in Manchester, TN.

2. Bonnaroo works closely with Clean Vibes to make sure their event leaves no mess once its over.

3. A green handbook is given to all festival staff (via email)

4. They have a green service pod where fans can learn about their green efforts, recycling, composting, etc.

5. Bonnaroo employs a team of green ambassadors who help fans with questions about sustainability.

6. Bonnaroo has an expanding collection of composting stations.

7. Concession food is served with biodegradable wraps, plates, cups, etc. 8. Bonnaroo is partnering with Stanley to set up multiple free water stations throughout the festival where fans can refill their bottles. Stay tuned for an interview I'm doing with a Stanley representative to learn more about this program. 9. A full line of organic cotton t-shirts is available for sale. 10. Post-consumer recycled toilet paper is used in the Portolets. These are just 10 ways Bonnaroo is going green, but there are many more.
