It's a fact. Cats are better off indoors. Not only is it safer for your cat, but it's also less hazardous to birds and other wildlife that may cross your cat's path. As Jasmin Malik Chua says in her article, Rein in Your Pet, "cats are the baddest bird killers of all time." That being said, some kitties?mine included?have an insatiable desire to dart for the door. So what's a cat lover to do? Try taking your cat out on a leash!
After hearing stories of people walking their cats, I gave this a try with my own cat recently and he loves it! At first he seemed a little embarrassed about being bound to—gasp—a human, but now he walks the perimeter of the yard like a security cat, checking out the surroundings and marking his territory.
