Pretty much as soon as you start thinking about gardening -- especially organic gardening -- all anyone wants to know is what/when/how you're composting.

In my life as a city person (without any outdoor space and a fear of house plants) I never composted because what on earth would I do with it? If you answered "What is find a community garden to give it to?" nice work. Shame on me for not thinking of that. But the fact is that up until last week, I have never composted my own trash in my whole life. (Unless I was over somebody else's house and they composted, so I had to put my scraps in their bin. Not sure that counts.)

But all that has changed and we're composting like mad. And while lots of people were quick to tell me how oh so easy it is, when I actually got down to figuring out how to compost, things got complicated, fast. So I'm here to break down for you exactly what we did and how we did it, so if you're not composting, you can get going on that situation, stat.
