Make a Coat Rack from Kitchen Cabinet Facing and Hardware
If you're remodeling the kitchen or just putting new cabinets in, there are plenty of ways to reuse your old cabinetry in other parts of the home. I've written about reusing cabinets for storage solutions in other parts of the house, but you can also upcycle bits and pieces of your kitchen in other ways. Case in point: A faux drawer facing and some hardware make a great mounted coat hook unit.
Materials & Tools:
1 faux drawer facing
4 knobs
Drill
Optional:
Paint and roller and/or brush
Fine sandpaper
Start by removing the faux drawer facing, which is generally used on the cabinets under the kitchen sink. Mark a line horizontally across the piece of facing, and mark where you want the hardware to sit (I'd suggest about three or four inches between each knob). Drill holes for hardware.
If painting, lightly sand the drawer facing to allow the paint to adhere. Paint the drawer and allow to dry completely before attaching knobs (overnight is best).
Screw the knobs onto the facing, making sure you sink the screws in at the back so the unit sits flush against the wall when it is hung.
Hang in a porch or entryway, or use it to hang up your kitchen aprons!
