For the first time in its history of choosing a 'house of the year,' Country Living has decided to choose green. (It's also the first time the house of the year can be available to the masses.)

This year's home is a modular, pre-fab home that uses green materials and can be shipped from several factories around the U.S., which means for the first time that readers across the country can live in the magazine's house of the year if they want to.

Built by New World Home, the "Hudson" cottage features a rainwater collection system, recycled materials in the decking and roof (which is light in color, a characteristic more and more people are recognizing has huge green value), bamboo and recycled wood flooring, built-in energy and water efficiency measures and appliances, low-VOC paint, and formaldehyde-free insulation.

If you're in New York, you can visit the home at the World Financial Center until June 17th, after which it will be dismantled and reconstructed permanently in New Jersey. Or, you can watch the house under construction (time-lapsed) right here:
