Giving a girl flowers is a pretty sure way to make her smile. Even your most tomboyish lady (cough cough, that would be me) enjoys an array of flowers here and there. I think they're beautiful. And I know that's subjective. But I also know a whole lot of ladies out there who agree with me.
I've been sent flowers via delivery services and I've been given flowers in person. While delivered flowers have a certain charm, I always prefer flowers given to me in person. I feel like the gift is more authentic that way. And, if approached properly, flowers given in person can be a lot greener than flowers delivered by a third party.
When you get flowers delivered, you are likely incurring unnecessary expenses—and so is the planet. While some flower companies boast organic and sustainable flowers, very few delivery services speak up about their transportation methods, fuel efficiency, or potentially wasteful packaging. (Many of the flowers I have had delivered have come wrapped in tissue paper, in a vase I didn't need, with plastic around the stems, and even in a box once.) Combine that with the fact that many flower farms aren't green and you might be ready to reconsider how you give flowers.
Giving someone flowers is a thoughtful gesture, but try to give them to your special person [url='http://planetgreen.discovery.com/work-connect/unplug-connect-face-people.html',face-to-face[/url] if at all possible. Doing this will allow you to pick your own wild flowers or march over to a store like Whole Foods, where you can pick up some sustainable flowers from the Organic Bouquet line. On top of picking the right kinds of flowers, you can see to it that your own delivery method is green. And finally, on top of all of this, you'll probably leave a better impression on your receiver if you do your giving without a third party.
