Once you've got that down, you can take it a step further by tracking down and using biodegradable plastic bags and packaging for your grocery and other regular shopping.
Canvas bags are a great, reusable, way to cut down on your bag consumption when you shop, but it can be hard to remember to bring your own plastic bags for a handful of green beans or bunch of grapes. No problem; the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) has you covered with a growing database of fully biodegradable plastic products that will fully brake down in your compost pile and not choke up a landfill for the next century or two.
The approved products list is categorized into compostable bags, food service, resins and packaging, with a logo that signifies its biodegradable nature.
