My brother-in-law made fun of me last year for handing out my business card. I was totally embarrassed, I felt like a cheesy salesman and you know what, I haven't used them since and I don't foresee myself ever having them printed again. Because after thinking about it, I realized that I didn't really need them and they were nothing but a huge waste.
What if everyone kicked the business card habit? Can you imagine how many trees we could save? So if you're thinking it's time to say goodbye to the business cards, here are some great substitutes that I use:
- Use your email signature as a business card
Before meetings send an email that confirms the meeting's agenda. You can also send an email after the meeting that discusses the talking points of the meeting. Either way, include an email signature with your email, number, position, and any other information that you want known. If you want to be super green, you can include a message in the signature that outlines why others should also skip the business cards.
- Put your digits on a PowerPoint presentation
PowerPoint is always a great way to organize a meeting because you don't have to hand out tons of wasted paper packets. In your PowerPoint presentation make sure that all your contact information is included so that people will know how to contact you.
- Make sure your contact information is easy to find online
Make sure that someone visiting your Web site can easily find you. If you are afraid to put your name online you can make all sales emails go to sales@yourcompany or make all public relations emails go to pr@yourcompany etc., as long as people are able to reach you.
