One of the main reasons why I miss having a yard here in NYC is the fact that I miss having a hammock. Hammocks are so comfortable! Nothing is more relaxing to me than lying in a hammock with a glass of wine and a book. If you don't have one of these in your yard, it's about time that you did! Luckily, you don't have to rush out and buy one new. Instead, make a hammock the eco-friendly way. You don't need much to do it other than a couple of hours and some basic materials.
Find some durable fabric that is at least 3 feet wide and 8 feet or so long. You very well may have the fabric around your house already. Consider old curtains, blankets, and sheets.
Fold in seams along the fabric you've cut and sew. Once you've made seams, at each long end, fold over again and create a loop. Do this by sewing the folded fabric over, but not sewing the open ends. A 2 or 3 inch loop should do.
Cut rope the length you need and string it through the loops on each side. You'll need two separate pieces of rope for this—one for both ends. Tie the rope to the tree nearest and you're done!
Enjoy!
