The benefits of duct tape have been widely popularized throughout the last few decades. There is even a book dedicated to the wonders of duct tape. If you're from Canada or have spent a Friday night watching public TV in Iowa, you might be aware of the Red Green Show, a program that mentions duct tape at every opportunity. Ironically, the only thing that duct tape cannot do is tape ducts effectively.
Now, I'm going to attempt to extol a few green uses for duct tape. I'll probably miss a few, so feel free to add more in the comments section. Thanks.
1. Duct tape can be used to temporarily patch a leak.
2. Repair a vacuum hose. If your vacuum is loses suction due to a pinhole or a crack in the hose, duct tape can seal that hole.
3. Duct tape can be used as a temporary patch in your vinyl siding.
4. Duct tape cures warts. In clinical trials, duct tape removed warts from 85% of the people who were treated with duct tape. Amazingly, this is not just a folk remedy, this has some science behind it.
5. You can fix a lawn chair with duct tape. Just use duct tape where the webbing should be.
6. Apply duct tape to your windows to look like a Union Jack during hurricane season. This will add a little protection to your window and prevent your glass from shattering into your house.
7. On the same note, if you do break a window. You can apply duct tape to the breaks and remove the window without fear of cutting yourself.
8. Use duct tape to temporarily patch a hole in your tent, until you have time to mend the hole. 9. Cut the clutter by keeping your wires organized. You can organize them into bunches, so you know which plugs you can unplug from the wall and which ones are vital. 10. A lot of cheap electronic gear, like remote controls and digital cameras, tend to lose their battery cover. Don't replace your perfectly working gadgetry, duct tape it. 11. Temporarily patch an umbrella. 12. Repair an old plastic trash can. 13. Make an iPod shuffle case. 14. Fix a fishing rod. I've used duct tape to keep old fishing rods together. It can be used to keep a broken eyelet in place or just to keep the rod in one piece. 15. Duct tape can be used as a temporary patch for a screen door. 16. Duct tape can patch a hole in a hose. 17. Duct tape makes a nice grip for hoes, hammers, corn knives and other tools. 18. Patch a dryer hose. 19. Temporary fix for eyeglasses. 20. Duct tape can be used as weather stripping or draft snake. 21. Patch your close with duct tape, until you can get to a sewing kit.
