Eco-anxiety is a very real affliction?in a time when talk of an imperiled earth can take on apocalyptic tones, it's no wonder that many find themselves addled with anxiety and guilt.

The disease, which is stems from a heightened concern about the environment, has been profiled in the likes of the New York Times and Treehugger.

The primary symptoms are overwhelming anxiety and difficulty sleeping, and they tend to afflict people who are concerned about things they cannot control directly — like global warming or endangered species.

The good news is that there are solutions available if you find yourself overly troubled with eco-woes. These three steps can help contain any over-burdening guilt or anxiety you may have about our planet's health.

1. Join an active green group and not only take comfort in the company of other concerned people, but make a real difference that you can take pride in.

2. Make one eco-friendly move a day?whether it's picking up a single piece of trash, remembering to recycle your soda can at the deli, or volunteering to plant trees — every little bit helps. Remember that, and be proud that you're doing more than a lot of folks do.

3. Stay rational: remember that there's only so much one person can do, and that there are thousands of people out there with the same worries who are also working towards building a greener future.

Finally, going green is nothing to get stressed about?our eco-friendly actions should be filled with the optimism that things can and will change for the better.
