What a luxury a handmade quilt is. Quilts kindle the heart with homemade comfort. Just knowing someone created a practical object from pieced together scraps of fabric that might have been wasted, make quilters green DIYers.
Give a book about quilting and peace.
You know quilts help keep people warm, but did you know that quilts could make peace? Quilting For Peace-Making the World A Better Place One Stitch at a Time, by Katherine Bell is a heartwarming book about a group of dedicated people (quilters) who create small acts of creative kindness aiming to make the world more peaceful.
Quilting For Peace, provides 25 inspirational stories of individuals and organizations devoted to making quilts for those in need. The 15 charity projects include blankets, toys and totes. Some of the charities supported are cancer centers, hospices, homeless shelters, animal rescues, war efforts and babies and children in need. Plus, there are guidelines for those who want to contribute to an existing peace-building or charity effort, or establish a new one in their local community.
Besides consciously raising awareness for social causes, what do quilters need? I'm told that every quilter can never have enough fabric.
Give organic fabrics.

Make an Eco-Quilted bag.
It is estimated that between 500 billion and 1 trillion plastic bags are discarded annually worldwide. That's more than a million per minute.
Along with using organic fabrics, provide recycled materials such as: burlap bags, dishtowels, old curtains, jeans, used scarves and old clothes cut to the sizes indicated in this Eco-Quilted Bag pattern. It will help curb plastic and paper bag waste, and encourage the recipient of this eco-gift to promote peace.
