Self-owned business is popular right now. It gives you the option to be your own boss, set your own times, and do what you really like. There are so many of these out there right now, it is difficult to know what is going to be a success, but might we suggest opening your own self sustaining gym.

Health is a popular past time right now as well as environmental business. Not many businesses can offer both the benefits of a healthier body and better environment, but this is certainly one. Right now isn't such a bad time to get into this type of business venture, with the summer coming to a close and the gradual reduction in the amount of bicyclists and walkers outside.

These folks will soon have no choice but to go to their local gym for exercise in many parts of the country. There is a lot of energy that goes into the machines at the typical athletic center, and some savvy gym owners are getting smart and harvesting that to run part of their business. Bryn Nelson from MSNBC, recently covered a story of one such gym in Portland Oregon called, Portland's Green Microgym.

What makes this gym so cool is its equipment. One such piece is a four person bike machine called Human Dynamo. It comes with both foot pedals and hand cranks to hit both the upper and lower body. These eight pedals combined are able to power both the gyms stereo system and televisions.

This racks up to about 450 to 900 watts an hour as long as there are continuous rigorous exercisers on the machine. Surprisingly, this kind of innovation is not expensive as you might think, and it not only sets your gym apart from any other, it saves you money over the long haul of your business.

The owner of Green Microgym, Mr. Boesel, claims that not only do his machines reduce the carbon footprint put out by his establishment, but they are a constant reminder for their patrons to reduce their own carbon footprint when they are away from the gym. This is good business from whichever angle you look at it, and most all of us love to support good businesses practices.

Someday it may be possible to reduce the energy needed by the typical gym by as much as 75 percent, during business hours with the use of such machines. That's not only good business, but smart business, and you could be at the forefront of such an idea. Food for thought for the entrepreneur looking for a new venture to tackle...
