Marmoleum is a floor covering, available in sheets or tiles, are made from natural flax, rosins, wood flour, and are backed with jute. According to TreeHugger, such floor coverings are "warm and comfortable, 100% biodegradeable. Healthy to produce and install, they'll remain so during their useful life, and even in disposal. And since they can be installed with solvent free adhesives, there are also no harmful VOC?s being emitted."

BuildItNaturally.com says Marmoleum is ideal for the chemically sensitive and allergic: "Made from pine tree rosins, wood flour and linseed oil, this flooring will glam your interior and keep your family or office environment healthy. The 100 plus colors, tinted with environmentally responsible pigments, makes Marmoleum a green interior designer's dream medium. It's healthy, safe and beautiful for any home or institution. It's a tough yet visually striking floor covering, highly resistant to heavy rolling loads and foot traffic. Because Marmoleum is a natural organic product, its performance is enhanced by time, as exposure to air serves to harden and increase its durability. Although Marmoleum continues to harden over time, the floor remains quiet and comfortable under foot."

TreeHugger adds: "Additionally, Marmoleum is dust-free, making it an excellent choice for people with allergies. It's also anti-static, and very easy to clean. Its bactericidal properties prevent micro-organisms—even the baddest of 'em—from multiplying themselves, because the linseed oil used in marmoleum continually oxidizes."
