Are you in the market for a good spa treatment? You probably deserve it right about now. With the rush of the holidays and the stress of Christmas shopping, I cannot think of a better time for a little rest and relaxation. When you do hit the spa this holiday season look for a greener spa. The market for green spa treatments is expanding each year. Here are my top three green treatments from across the nation:

1. Naturopathica Bamboo Lemongrass Body Scrub

This foaming exfoliating scrub is available at one of five Natural Body Spa and Shops located in Atlanta, Jacksonville, Memphis, Raleigh, and DC. This green treatment sloughs away your calloused or flaky skin. It's perfect in winter when everyone has dry skin, and can be especially good for the calloused feet of an athlete, yogi, or walker. You even get a massage with lemongrass and ginger oil at the end.

Naturopathica products are made of natural ingredients sourced from organic farms. The spa itself is also green. It uses recycled products, and prints its newsletter and spa menus on recycled paper with soy ink. The spa also uses recycled and post consumer waste construction materials whenever possible, including recycled school bus tires for the floors.

2. Cedar Enzyme Bath

This treatment is available at the Osmosis Spa in Freestone, California. It includes some really neat stuff like tea in a Japanese tea garden, a Cedar Enzyme Bath, and a metamusic blanket wrap. The Cedar Enzyme Bath blends of finely ground cedar, rice bran, and plant enzymes that have a warming effect on the skin. The metamusic blanket wrap consists of a warm blanket wrapped around the body along with soothing music that helps you to slip deeper into relaxation.

Osmosis has taken many pains to turn a previously abandoned dump into an eco-sanctuary. After removing abandoned cars and railroad tracks from the surrounding area, local artisans and a strong green mission have helped to slowly transform the site into a relaxing green spa. The sanctuary uses eco-friendly furniture painted with non-VOC paints and a new water-treatment system that eliminates the need for trucking in bottled water. The skincare line is totally green and a new composting system is helping to reduce waste.

3. Fire and Ice Facial

You'll find this treatment at Anjou Spa and Salon in Bend, Oregon. It combines hot and cold sensations for the best in green treatments. First off, the stimulating facial uses fresh pulp from apples and grapes to begin to exfoliate the skin. Next, paprika and other fresh herbs (the hot) are used to stimulate circulation and detoxify skin. Finally, a chilled organic masque (the cold) is massaged into the skin with an alternating warm and cool facial massage. Simply fabulous! The spa is totally green and reduces water use by using Energy Star-rated appliances, tankless water heaters, and water-saving fixtures. The spa employed recycled materials whenever possible during its construction, low VOC paints, and bamboo flooring.
