It's not news that playtime is important for kids' health and for helping them through important social, emotional and cognitive development processes. Nor is it news that green space is good for mental health all around. But a playground that combines the two? That's essentially what an an inner-city Boston school has done.
Crispus Attucks preschool, in a neighborhood of Boston where parents usually struggle to find green space, has "recently converted their traditional playground
"Each playground class is given a small plot of land where kids can plant their own vegetables that are harvested and eaten at the end of the season."
The project was expensive, but school faculty say it was worth it. They hope the new playground will help prevent nature deficit disorder and the psychological effects
