The EPA recently released a guide of the most fuel efficient cars of 2009. The Toyota Prius took home the top prize. However, the majority of folks can?t afford a brand-new car, especially in this shaky economy. A lot of us have to take what we can get. I still drive my uncle?s old car, because "free" was in my price range at the time. I?ve done a good job of keeping it in good condition, but, sirs and madams, like many of you, I cannot afford a hybrid automobile, and I will not apply for a loan during this economic mud storm.
The EPA has released another guide called the Green Vehicle Guide. It allows consumers to pick and choose cars based on their fuel economy and emission rates. It's a great guide. There are thousands of makes and models in the complete guide. I can't even scroll through all the 2008 models in a single sitting, the guide is just that big. It's easily searchable by make, model and year and you can see what the gas mileage is and what the emissions are on every single model. The only downside is that there are no cars listed prior to the year 2000. (My car is too old for the list.)
So, if you can't afford the Toyota Prius, the current pinnacle of fuel efficiency and low emissions, you can at least do some comparison shopping amongst the cars you can afford.
All statistics are based on the average fuel efficiency. Any number of factors can swing fuel efficiency in either direction.
