They say that April showers bring May flowers, and that Mayflowers bring pilgrims. Although I wasn't aware that there was more than one Mayflower. I feel the child's joke really doesn't hold water. Speaking of holding water, an umbrella is a great way to hold water at bay.

But if the umbrella gets snagged on a branch or torn by a piece of flying debris, then it won't be good at holding back the water at all. Luckily, umbrellas aren't that hard to repair. That means you won't have to throw umbrellas away. The landfill can breathe a sigh of relief.

An umbrella made of plastic or vinyl is extremely easy to repair. Go to your local bike shop and purchase a bike tire puncture repair patch. If the hole in your umbrella is considerably larger, head on down to the sporting goods store. Try and find patches for inflatable rafts.

If the canopy is made of fabric, just find matching material at your local craft store and sew it on like you would a patch. It's easy cheese.
