You can spend Earth Day with your pet, or volunteer to help their habitat. But if you're too tired from your previous volunteer efforts go even get off the couch, here are a few green actions you can take—right from the comfort of your own home. You can help animals and their habitat with the power of your voice, pen, and computer keyboard.
Make Your Voice Heard for Animals and their Habitat
Adopt an animal
Don't worry, you don't have to bring them to your backyard—just send money to support their cause! Maybe you just watched Happy Feet again and you want to save the penguins. Or you heard that global warming is melting the polar ice caps and you want to help the polar bears. You can also 'adopt' animals from a local sanctuary or rescue organization to help support their feeding and care. You can usually choose between a one-time gift or monthly support.
Take action against global warming
Save the seals and the polar bears! Working to stop global warming helps all animals (and humans too of course). There are many ways to get involved from signing petitions to joining coalitions. You can also follow a list of five small changes you can make to help climate change.
Write your local or national officials
Let them know how you feel about your pet issue. Many cause websites make it easy by creating a form letter for you. Remember to personalize the email though, so it doesn't seem canned. On that note, officials receive so many emails that sometimes yours could get lost in the email matrix. Sometimes it's best to print out, sign and send your letter old-fashioned-style (on recycled paper of course).
Find your U.S. senator or representative:
Get Local
Sometimes local groups need the most support. But it doesn't always mean shelling out big bucks. You can also do administrative work or make calls for the cause.
There you go! Just a few ways you can help animals and the environment from the comfort of your own home. Now, hop on the couch, grab your laptop and get going.
