Lawn care season is here. But considering lawn mowers account for five percent of the country's total emissions, isn't it time we rethink those gas-guzzling machines?

(Or rethink lawns altogether? Considering the chemicals often involved, the runoff those chemicals produce, and the natural vegetation that gets displaced, lawns aren't—despite their color—all that green. And they're not helping the mysterious bee crisis.)

Research has found that cutting grass for an hour with a gas-powered lawnmower produces about as much air pollution as a 100-mile drive in a car. It's because of the nature of the small engine, but I won't get technical here. The point is that solar or electric lawn mowers emit far fewer emissions. Human-powered machines, even better.

They're both easy to use! And people seem to fall in love with their electric green beauties right away. Get out and consider the switch today.
