Live life to the max, while spending and consuming less, with one or more of these 75 money-saving ideas from the October/November 2007 issue of Mother Earth News. Many you've seen before on our pages, such as the suggestion to eat in-season fruits and veg; some are just plain common sense, although it may take someone laying it out plainly for us before that aha! clicks into place. Tip #7, for instance, says not to overeat, because you're just flushing money down the train. (Find out how you can trick yourself into eating less.)

Regarding education, #52 is a keeper:

For lessons, try bartering. For example, my wife is planning to do some photography in exchange for dance lessons.

If you have to buy something new, #37 says to seek quality and durability over price, because it's often cheaper to spend more upfront if you won't have to replace the item in the near future. Have restless feet? Give #60 a shot and volunteer for an organization such as Willing Workers on Organic Farms (WWOOF) that provide food and lodging in exchange for a reasonable amount of daily work. ::Mother Earth News
