This unlikely pair of items can make some eye-catching modern art.
I see a lot of modern art in NYC. It seems like every place from the library to the bar down the street is filled with this style of art. That's ok with me because...well...I like it. But purchasing modern art for your home can be really expensive. Not only can it be expensive, but it can also be resource-draining. If you want modern art in your home, try out this easy project which reuses items you probably already have lying around.
How to make modern art from an old canvas and videotape:
Locate an old canvas.
I had this ruined canvas from an old roommate lying around for quite some time now. Although I suggest using an old canvas, you can always use an old piece of wood instead if you don't have an old canvas around.
Paint the canvas.
Paint the base of your canvas (or wood) white. Use eco-friendly paint.
Decorate canvas with videotape.
Break a videotape into many pieces. This is easier than you probably think, I promise. Arrange the pieces however you wish on the canvas. Once you have your arrangement set, glue the pieces down to the canvas once the paint has dried with eco-friendly glue.
Enjoy! This project is a great way to reuse two old things you may already have and create a cool modern art piece for your home without buying anything new. When people ask you about the story behind your art, be sure to tell them all about your green lifestyle.
