Trying to decorate for Halloween without spending all of your candy fund—and without buying a bunch of once-a-year hangings that spend the other 364 days gathering dust—can be a scary prospect. Try this project from Jessica Jones at How About Orange to give spare votive holders an eerie makeover.
Start with clean, dry, clear votive holders—or even empty glass jars in any size you have hanging around—and then print spiders, skulls, ghouls, or any other pattern (try the vintage clip art that Jones links to in her original post) in a size that fits on your packing tape (this is usually about two inches high). Note: this step requires a laser printer, since inkjet results won't transfer properly. Attach the sticky side of the tape over the image and trim the excess paper; then soak the tape and paper until the paper rubs off. You'll be holding a piece of tape (still sticky!) with the inked image still showing up—easy to attach to your plain jars or candleholders.
The same technique would work for any holiday, too: try ornaments, stars, or trees on red or green frosted candleholders at Christmas, pink and red hearts for Valentine's Day, and cupcakes, balloons, or other cheery transfers at your next birthday party.
