It's more than a redundancy in terms. Nuclear Madness is the title of a classic book by Dr. Helen Caldicott. Originally published in 1978—and still inspiring readers today Nuclear Madness was to the nuclear industry what Rachel Carson's Silent Spring was to pesticides.
In this book, Dr. Caldicott famously declares: "As a physician, I contend that nuclear technology threatens life on our planet with extinction. If present trends continue, the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink will soon be contaminated with enough radioactive pollutants to pose a potential health hazard far greater than any plague humanity has ever experienced."
She adds: "As a doctor, as well as a mother and a world citizen, I wish to practice the ultimate form of preventive medicine by ridding the earth of these technologies that propagate disease, suffering, and death."
