Dissecting frogs back in high school was bad enough. But fuzzy wuzzy cute and cuddly kittens?!

Texas Tech University (or shall we say 'Kitty Auschwitz' as Ecorazzi so appropriately dubbed it) was called out last year after the school's Health Sciences Center was found buying up homeless cats and using them for "medical training."

PETA revealed the disturbing details saying,

The cats are forced to undergo painful intubation procedures in which hard plastic tubes are repeatedly forced down their wind pipes by course participants. This can result in bleeding, swelling, scarring of the animals' throat tissue, collapsed lungs, and even death. In another procedure, the cats have air forced into their chest cavities so that course participants can repeatedly practice inserting a needle into the animals to remove the excess air.

Now actor, eco-activist and Texas native, Woody Harrelson is lending his voice against the harsh practices, having recently written a letter directly to Texas Tech President John Baldwin. Here is an excerpt:

Harming and killing shelter animals for these exercises is unjustifiable, especially as realistic manikins that more accurately represent human anatomy and better prepare medical professionals to treat injured and sick children are readily available. . . . I and countless others around the state are deeply discouraged to learn that Texas Tech is taking advantage of the tragic abundance of abandoned animals.

While it would be nice, you certainly don't need to have Woody

After all, we may never know whose hands Felix and Fido could fall into.
