A good portion of the materials that you'll need for this project can be found in your own backyard. Collect pine cones and bird feathers to make your turkey rustic and natural. This is a really interactive and fun project for the kids as well.

Here's what you'll need:

Pine cones

Tacky glue

3 tan pipe cleaners

3 bird feathers for each cone

A slice of a thick, dead tree branch or other piece of wood for the base (about 1/2 inch thick and 3 inches across)

1 to 2 sheets thick, recycled paper stock

Directions

1. Place all the pine cones on a foil lined baking sheet and cook for 45 minutes at 200 degrees. This process will disinfect the pine cones before you start crafting.

2. Glue the pine cone to the wood base and make sure it's balanced.

3. Cut the pipe cleaners into 5-inch pieces.

4. Shape one piece like the head (similar to a backward candy cane) and the other two like the feet. Attach the head in the top middle and place the feet equal distance apart on the bottom of the pine cone. (Glue pieces on with the cone facing forward.)

5. Glue the feathers in the pine cone straight up with the shortest feather in the middle.

6. Cut the paper stock in 3-inch by 5-inch pieces.

7. With a nice pen write the names of your guests on the paper stock.

8. Attach the name plate in front of the feathers with the tacky glue.
