Not enough time to help out with an environmental charity? You might be too busy just trying to make ends meet. And if you're spending all your time just trying to eke out a meager existence in this fast-paced, modern world, then you probably aren't going to have much money to donate to tree-planting organizations.

As Lloyd Alter pointed out in a post a few months ago, it's not hard to help the environment for under ten bucks. The same principle can be applied to trees. There are a variety of ways to grow trees without spending a lot of money. You can grow trees in your own backyard or you can help grow trees somewhere around the world, all for under ten dollars.

1. Grow a Tree from a Seed

This is the old-fashioned way of growing trees. You may think that growing a tree from a seed takes a lot of TLC, and you're right. If you don?t have a lot of time, may I suggest the black walnut tree? It grows best when planted as a seed, and it's a faster grower. Grow a few to shade your AC and save money in the process.

3. American Forests

Founded in 1875, American Forests is the nation's oldest nonprofit citizen's conservation organization. For every dollar you donate to this organization, they will plant a tree. That's 10 trees for ten dollars.

4. Keep an Eye Out For Corporate Events

A Tweezer company offered to plant a tree with every 10 dollar purchase.

Other companies have made similar pledges. (for under ten dollars.)
