Planting a tree in your yard has many benefits. First, it's a plant and will absorb CO2. Vegetation also helps to cut down on urban heat islands. Thirdly, trees planted in the correct places can shade your air conditioner, your home and decrease cooling bills. They also function as windbreaks and can prevent snow from drifting up against your house. Trees are all-natural, 100% organic and look pretty.

Here is how to plant a tree:

Remember, that if you live in a city, there will probably be laws as to where you can plant trees. Check your local laws.

6-Foot Stakes

2-inch rubber hose buffers

1. Dig a whole twice the size of the tree?s root ball and 11/2 times deep.

2. Mix excavated soil with compost. Your mix should be 1/3 compost, 2/3 soil.

3. Add nutrients.

4. Begin to refill hole. You want the part where the tree is sticking out of it's root bag to be even with the ground.

5. Carefully untie the root ball. Try and keep the soil from the root ball intact.

6. Finishing filling hole.

7. Mash down soil around the tree into a bowl-shaped dimple.

8. Fill dimple with water. Let it soak.

9. Drive stakes into the ground two feet from the tree. Be careful of the roots.

10. Attach wire to the hose buffers. Wrap the buffer around the sapling. The stakes will act as anchors for the tree. You will need to leave slack.
