A little creativity and some resin can help you salvage old kitchenware as art.
DIY Home renovation doesn't have to be a nightmare. I'm currently redoing my bedroom and made this project as art for my window sill. You can, too. But financial matters aside, there's an even better reason to DIY your way to a crisper, cooler bedroom: it's green. So without further ado, follow these simple steps in order to turn an easy-to-find kitchen plate or platter into fabulous windowsill art.
How to turn a plate or platter into windowsill art:
1. Locate your plate or platter.
If you don't have anything with the look or feel you're going for around the house, try checking your local thrift store. Remember: taking used materials off the hands of thrift stores is a green way to find supplies for your DIY projects.
2. Find your decoration materials. Anything from a picture cut out of your Salvador Dali art book (I kind of can't believe I cut up that book for this project, but R.I.P., Dali, it was worth it) to cool beads or baseball cards will do.
3. Purchase and prepare resin. Envirotex makes a 'lite' resin which should only be used in well-ventilated areas, but will help you seal images and objects into your plate or platter indefinitely. Resin isn't the greenest stuff on earth, but a lighter kind is safer for indoor use. So far, Envirotex is the best stuff I can find, but if you know of any other not-so-bad resins, please let our community know!
4. Once you've prepared your resin, pour it into your plate or platter and let it sit overnight. You can pour the resin over your images/objects, or you can carefully place them in the resin after it's been poured. This depends on how close to the surface you want your images/objects to be. If you'd like for them to be as close as possible, be sure to place them in the resin after it's been poured. This project is an awesome way to bring some art to your windowsill (or anywhere else in you house if you like) through reusing.
