Poachers rob us all of the nature that we strive to protect. The most devastating poachers are the ones who hunt endangered species, but poaching can be as simple as hunting during the off-season or keeping too many fish from a lake. In any case, poaching affects us all.

Poaching can disrupt eco-systems, kill protected and vital animals and it can waste the tax payers' money. State-owned parks will have to introduce more security or restock a lake with fish.

1. Learn what poaching is.

2. If you see someone poaching, do not try and stop them, especially if they are armed with guns. Your best weapon in the fight against poachers is a notepad. Take notes. Record everything that you see. Write down license plate numbers, a physical description, the type of violation and the location where it occurred.

3. Report the poachers the authorities. Each state has its own hotline. Most states will let you report the poaching anonymously. Of course, a non-anonymous tip may allow you to help convict the poachers.

The State of California offers rewards for the successful capture of poachers.

The State of Idaho allows you to report poaching online.
