In recent years, awareness of the insane number of dogs and cats in need of saving has been raised thanks to a slew of animal rescue-related television shows and campaigns. But those in need don't stop with warm and cuddly best friends. The other 4-legged victims of neglect, abuse and abandonment calling out your name are farm animals. Yes, you heard me. Horses, pigs, lambs, goats, rabbits, even chickens have feelings too and are desperate to be rescued by loving families who will make them feel warm and cuddly (even if you can't really cuddle a goat).
No space for a coop in your yard? No problem. Money goes a long way. Sponsoring the animal of your choice will help to keep them fed, warm, and sheltered. Longmeadow Rescue Ranch is a 165-acre haven in Union, Missouri, where abused and neglected farm animals are rehabilitated, socialized and (hopefully) adopted. Volunteers are welcomed with open arms and handed feed, shovels to help clean stalls, and sometimes a furry little guy in hopes of feeling a warm hand.
Not particularly impassioned by ranch animals? Sponsor a Barn Buddy on behalf of your cousin who is crazy about llamas, your sister who has a sweet spot for pot belly pigs, or a cow for your vegetarian best friend. More than the knowledge of being a do-gooder, you will receive a hard copy photo, bio, certificate of care, adoption information, and an invite to visit the ranch and meet your buddy in person. Save a life—rescue a pig!
