Roger Deane got the bug for LEDs and retrofitted his entire house—and we mean entire house—with eco-friendly LED lighting. The Scottsdale, Arizona resident recognizes that the future of lighting is in LEDs (and OLEDs) and decided to bite the bullet and get started on changing out his lighting to fit the inevitable. Everything from ceiling fixtures to inside cabinets and drawers were fitted with LEDs.

While compact fluorescent bulbs are currently the most popular option for more energy efficient lighting, LED lighting is already hitting the market. LEDs are even more efficient than CFLs but come at a higher price point, costing as much as $100 a bulb. That didn't stop Deane.

As the Arizona Central reports, Deane estimates that he is trimming $20 a month from his outdoor lighting bill alone, and more off his indoor lighting bill. And while the LEDs will take 5 to 7 years to pay for themselves, the original bulbs are likely to last well past that.

If you're ready to follow Deane's lead, there is a growing selection of LED bulbs to choose from. But if you're not quite ready for that kind of endeavor, start small with some fun LED projects.
