Using a ceiling fan in your home is a great way to save energy and money, and not just in the warmer months. Ceiling fans can cut your home's energy use up to 40% in the summer, and 10% in the winter; just flip the switch at the base of most models so that the blades rotate clockwise, and help circulate the warm air that has risen up toward the ceiling.

Don't have one yet? Energy Star has tips for choosing the right fan size and info on where to get them, as well as installation and usage tips, including a reminder to adjust your thermostat up in the summer and down in the winter when using the fan.
