We all like to recycle. I like it a lot when I go to somebody's house and they have a little homemade RECYCLE sign with an arrow pointing down over their recycling bin. It's nice.
But many of us may recycle without knowing the full extent of glass recycling's positive impacts. Well, recyclers, let me give you the breaking news about these clearly amazing advantages.
1. Glass is Infinitely Recyclable Glass used to make our pickle, salsa and olive jars and the glass that makes up our milk and cold mocha bottles is infinitely recyclable. You can recycle this glass over and over with no loss in quality.
2. Recycling Glass Saves Energy A lot of recycling detractors say that recycling uses more energy than it is worth. Well, they are just plain wrong. Here are some facts: From Britglass.org:
The energy saving from recycling one bottle will: Power a 100 watt light bulb for almost an hour Power a computer for 25 minutes Power a colour TV for 20 minutes Power a washing machine for 10 minutes
Imagine the energy saved by recycling ten bottles
3. Reduce Landfill Size In Britain, glass comprises 8% of their garbage. Therefore, you could reduce landfill growth by 8%, simply by recycling your glass. Glass never biodegrades. Let?s reuse it instead of burying it in a hole.
4. Preserving Raw Materials From Waste Online.org.uk:
5. Good for Society Recycling glass can create green jobs and raise recycling awareness. And it makes you cool. All of these are good for society.
