If the title of this post seems like sales pitch, it's because that's what Carbon Creditz is—in a green way. Carbon Creditz is spearheading a green incentives program that rewards consumers simply for buying products they'd be buying anyway. (Is it just me, or does that still sound sort of like a late night infomercial?) I swear, I'm not in the tank for Carbon Creditz. But it's an admirable idea-and you might have some products redeemable for Carbon Creditz already lying around the house without even knowing it! (Sigh)
The Quest for Carbon Credits
It works like this: when you buy certain products-home monitoring systems, BIC pens, Siemens appliances, etc-check to see if they come with a CC logo and accompanying numeric code. You log on to the Carbon Creditz website, enter the code, and collect credits that can be used towards a variety of environmentally themed rewards. You can purchase carbon offsets, contribute towards offsets for a school or institution, or earn any one of a slew of innovative energy-efficient appliances like a water-powered calculator or a hand crank flashlight.
Also, if you happen to live in the UK, you can pick up 2 free CFL light bulbs just by filling out a form.
The Carbon Creditz website has a full list of participating companies and incentive based rewards.
Once more, I apologize for the ad speak —it's hard to make any sentence with 'Creditz' in it sound journalistic.
Consult this handy guide for more ways to green your carbon offsets.
