Toilet Train Your Cat

Cat litter is dastardly for the environment, but cat poo is gross and litter is a non-smelly way to be rid of it. There are wheat-based biodegradable cat litters that aren't as harmful to environment as your standard kitty litter. However, you can eliminate the need for cat litter altogether by teaching your cat to use the toilet.

Citikitty—they feature a quote from Stuff Happens on their website-sells a kitty-cat toilet-training kit. The kit costs about thirty bucks. You can quickly recoup that loss with the money you'll save on kitty litter. It works by placing a toilet lid shaped litter box on top of the toilet. Slowly, the owner removes parts of the fake lid. Eventually, the cat will use nothing but the toilet.

Charles Mingus, the jazz bassist, had a technique for toilet training a cat. Here is part of his technique in his own words:

"It took me about three or four weeks to toilet train my cat, Nightlife. Most of the time is spent moving the box very gradually to the bathroom. Do it very slowly and don't confuse him. And, remember, once the box is on the toilet, leave it a week or even two. The main thing to remember is not to rush or confuse him."

He claims that some cats will even learn to flush!
